Had to choose between two identical streets on my way to work yesterday
So I was driving to my office in Springfield, same route I take every day for three years. I came to the usual turn, but there were two streets with the same name, Maple Avenue, side by side. I swear there has only ever been one. I had about five seconds to pick one. I went with the left one, and it felt wrong instantly, like the buildings were slightly off. I got to work fine, but when I left, that second Maple Avenue was gone. Just the normal one. My coworker thinks I just zoned out, but I know what I saw. Has anyone else had a street or a landmark just appear and then vanish like that?

You said the buildings felt "slightly off" on the left street. That's a classic sign your brain was just tired and filling in details wrong. It happens to me when I'm on autopilot driving the same old route.

Ever think that's just tired brain stuff? I used to brush it off too until @wood.paige pointed it out, and now I catch my own brain doing it all the time. Makes you wonder what else we're just glossing over.

Totally get what you're saying @perez.barbara. It's wild how much our brains just guess. Makes you question your own memory sometimes. We're all running on faulty software half the time. Paige is right about autopilot, it's a real problem.
