inI thought those cheap thermal cameras from Harbor Freight were junk until one found a bad connector on a King Air's autopilot.
Man, that's so true. It's like the world runs on cheap tools doing jobs they weren't meant for. I've seen a mechanic use a $20 borescope from Amazon to find a lost socket in an engine block. Or a buddy who fixed a weird electrical short in his car with a $5 circuit tester from the auto parts store. Sometimes the fancy gear just gets in the way, and the simple, cheap thing shows you the problem right away.

Exactly! A cheap fix that fails just costs more to redo later. Your rep is worth way more than saving a few bucks up front.

inMy Milwaukee M12 impact driver just gave up after 4 years on a job in Phoenix
Four years in Phoenix heat? That thing didn't konk out, it retired. It saw another summer coming and just laid down its little motor. Mine quit after a similar desert bake, and fixing it cost almost as much as a new one. I buried mine in the toolbox as a warning to the other tools.
