I finally looked into recycling our shop's solvent waste

Honestly, the regulations are a maze but worth navigating.

Took me three attempts just to figure out which bin the solvent goes in, so I'm hardly a poster child for regulatory compliance. But @the_mary is right that these small steps add up, even if mine are clumsy. Eventually we might not need a flowchart to do the right thing.

See this as a microcosm of the larger corporate accountability movement. Tbh, every small business that navigates these regulations sets a precedent for responsible waste management. It's these grassroots efforts that eventually rewrite industry norms.

Two spills in, I label everything hazardous just to be safe.

Yeah, color-coding your waste streams is a game-changer. I use red for halogenated, blue for non-halogenated, and green for aqueous. Keep a laminated list of common solvents and their codes right next to the bins. It turned our chaotic waste corner into something almost orderly, minus the occasional "what the hell is this" bottle.
