I bought a $200 laser level that couldn't hold its calibration after a month on the truck.

I lost a full day re-checking every layout on a kitchen remodel in Tempe, and now I'm back to trusting my old 4-foot level, so what's a truly durable brand you guys actually swear by?

My brother-in-law runs a granite shop in Mesa and they switched to using surveyor's tripods for their lasers. The cheap tripod legs on most kits are the first thing to fail from daily bumps. Investing in a solid base might save your next laser, even a mid-range one.

Yeah that's a solid point from @hayes.tara, it's like the whole "buy nice or buy twice" thing. I see it everywhere, like with phone chargers or kitchen tools. People grab the cheap option and then get mad when it breaks in a month, but the good stuff just keeps going. It's wild how often the weakest link is some flimsy part you didn't even think about, like those tripod legs. Makes total sense to put a good laser on a base that can actually take a hit.

That "weakest link" thing @skyler_kim mentioned is everywhere. You see it with cheap hoses or fittings that blow out and ruin the whole setup.
