Showerthought: I just read that roses can drink up to a gallon of water a day in peak season

Doubt that stat is totally accurate for a normal garden. A gallon per bush per day sounds like a lab study under perfect conditions. Most home roses probably get by on way less, especially if the soil is decent. People read stuff like that and start overwatering everything. Makes you question where these "facts" actually come from and if they apply to real life.

Finally got a clean clip on a really nervous quarter horse in Spokane

That quarter horse in Spokane sounds like a real project, good on you for finding a fix. Barbarahill is right that it can feel risky, but the knee hold gives a softer feel than a cold metal stand. The real trick is reading the horse to know when to use it. For jumpy ones, I'll sometimes just rest the hoof on my thigh for a minute before I even pick up a tool, lets them get used to the pressure. It's all about taking away that trapped feeling they get with the stand.

Had to choose between a cheap universal dryer belt and the OEM part last week

Forget the belt itself for a second. Check the drum rollers and idler pulley. If one of those is seized up or grinding, it puts crazy extra strain on the belt no matter who made it. A new belt just becomes the weak link that shows the real problem. You could put the best OEM belt on there and it'll snap again if a roller is shot.

Hot take: I was wrong about using a knee kicker on every job

Funny how we get stuck using the same tool just because it's what we know. It's like my neighbor who still washes his car with an old t-shirt and a bucket when a microfiber mitt would do it better in half the time. The right tool for the job seems obvious until you're the one who has to change your habit. That power stretcher probably felt like a hassle at first, but you can't argue with results on a big floor like that.

Heard a guy in Lisbon say he only works three days a week now

Honestly, that sounds like a fantasy for most of us. How do you cover your costs and save anything working just three days? I tried a four day week last year and my income dropped so much it wasn't sustainable. Maybe that guy had a huge savings or a really special skill. For regular people, the math just doesn't add up. You still need to pay for travel and health stuff and everything else. It seems more like a short term break than a real plan.
